Advice from a Blonde

Funny thing. One of my friends at work wants my advice on what to wear tonight for a hot date. Best bet: short skirt and low cut shirt! lol. I would not classify myself as fashionable, but I like to look cute regardless if I’m lying around the house or going out into public. Single worst thing a woman could do is let themselves go. This isn’t for a man this is for yourself. When you start letting go you forget who you are.

One of the main calls I get at work are folks looking for a job. I can not tell you how sad it makes me when I get calls that sound so desperate. On more than a couple of occasions I have heard someone say, “the economy is really bad and I need work.” This just makes me feel bad for you. Maybe job seekers should try a different method such as, “During this recession I have had time to refocus my goals and I think I will be a great asset to your company please contact me if you begin hiring. ” I try to relate my work to everyday issues. Women imparticular who let themselves go at home will show that in the workplace. So my advice…pay attention to the small details…it may help in more ways than one.

I found out the other day that the people in my office have multiple nicknames for me.  When I heard this, I wasn’t sure if I should be flattered or offended.  I also heard through the grapevine that they open chat rooms each day specifically dedicated to giving status updates of when I am out on the support floor.

I always thought it was weird when people would pop up out of their cubicles like jack-in-the-boxes when I was walking the floor …. Now I know why.

Apparently the most commonly-used name for me is “wooty” …. In other words, “white girl with a booty.”  I couldn’t believe it!  But, what can you do?  I guess it’s just a good idea to laugh it off and let the good times roll.

Welcome to my World

Being an HR manager isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. All day long, you get employees that argue with you, people who complain about their paycheck, sales people who try to sell you stuff you don’t need, and managers that bring crazy stuff to your attention on an hourly basis.

But, there are highlights to being the HR manager in a call center of 300+ employees. One of the best parts of my job is the stories that come with it. From the crazy to the downright hilarious, there are some great ones that pop up every once in a while.

So, sit back, grab a glass of wine (if you’re not breaking HR policy and visiting personal websites while at work), and enjoy!

Lets talk about Me!

Question: Have you ever been driving home after work and have a random thought about your day and then have an outburst of laughter? I do this on a regular basis. Mainly, because I am the energetic one in the office, the one they call “vibrant” whatever that means and I constantly leave the office saying to myself, “why did I tell my coworkers that story?”

I think this may have to do with my morning cups of coffee. I can’t start my day without at least 2 cups! When a new hire comes to me during the 8:00 hour they are most likely not going to get hired mainly because I don’t like you if you bothered me this early! I wish I could put a sign on my desk that reads: Do Not Bother Me Until 11, Hormonal and will SNAP!

The coffee, however, does help! In fact, it gives me so much energy that I end up telling my coworkers all about my life including, but not limited to, my family, friends, and problems. This ends up leaving me with thoughts of guilt as I leave work…did I say too much?

Needless to say, if I didn’t tell them stories and keep them guessing about my life outside of work, life in the office would be so boring. That is probably a little vain on my part. I’ll just think what I want: “I am the most interesting one of all in the office” lol. Maybe I just say what they wanted to say, but they didn’t have the balls? Yeah I like that thought better.

Once I pull into my driveway I always let out a sigh of relief. Just exhausted from all that talking, typing, and oh yeah working! Lucky for my significant other my caffeine intake has finally hit me. He doesn’t have to listen to my rough day in the office! ha He gets the sweet side of me…lying on the couch while he rubs my head (that barely happens anymore unless I beg!). He would disagree about the sweet side too, but this is my blog and I will say what I want!
